lpaw-iecThe La Puente Art has started to create a lot of buzz in the last few months. What began as a group of poets and art lovers in a small coffee shop has grown to an event spanning roughly 1/2 a mile and now includes over a dozen businesses in the Downtown La Puente area displaying art in many mediums. Along with a display of show cars there was a poet’s corner and a handful of bands playing on any of three available stages. We even debuted our new logo that helps define our 3 core values.

Since joining the art walk in late 2012 a lot has changed. This past event marked the first time in which we were “offically” branded as the La Puente Art Walk. Until late last year, we were going by the acronym U.P.M.A. which stood for “Un Poquito Mas Arte” (or “A Little More Art” in Spanish). I’ve had the opportunity to meet many amazing people including some that I really admire from Disney community like Bob Gurr, Brian McKim and Matt McKim. At this event we were happy to welcome First District Supervisor, Gloria Molina; it was an absolute honor to meet her (big thanks to my buddy Javier for snapping this pic of us). And, of course, I was looking away. 🙂

I had photographs up at two galleries (with space generously provided by Kristal Kuts and Kandy’s Vintage). The photos at Kandy’s Vintage were part of our rockabilly and vintage inspired show ‘Pompadours and Polka-dots‘. It was also really great to not only have some of my photos on display but also to have my buddy Javier be part of the exhibit. He had a really sweet looking rockabilly inspired bride of Frankenstein. Click the image to the right for a larger view.
For my display at Kristal Kuts I wanted to do something a little different. My son has recently grown a liking for puzzles and over the course of the last several weeks he’s gone from putting together 10 piece puzzles to 40 piece puzzles. He loves it! A few weeks before the art walk he was sitting at his table and having just finished his latest puzzle (20 pieces) he said “Look, Daddy! It’s so big!” His comment inspired me to put together the large puzzles and large puzzle pieces that were part of what I called ‘Pieces of Imagination’. Click on the photos below to see larger versions of my puzzles on display at Kristal Kuts.

Even though I spent most of my afternoon fighting off a bad cold, dizziness and a hacking cough I still had fun. We ended the evening at the Poet’s corner listening to a local band named Lions!  I liked their synthy-pop sound and I hope I get to hear from them again. Below are some photos from this past Saturday’s event. Feel free to share them on Facebook but please don’t edit them and remove my watermark. Thanks! 🙂
