Although the heat slowed down the flow of people early on in the afternoon, the evening picked up as the degrees dropped. With 11 exhibits to choose from throughout the afternoon standing at the crossroad of Main St and 1st in the center of Downtown La Puente would fill your eardrums with music and poetry from almost every direction.

The Art Walk festivities began with an exhibit called ‘ArtWORKS’ at the La Puente Library by the Nuvein Foundation, Lisa Ruiz and Melissa Lyndell. The exhibit included chalk drawing for the kids outside of the library along with a collaborative community painting that even La Puente Mayor Violeta Lewis joined in on.

A short walk away at the RiT Gallery you were able to go ‘Beyond Another Dimension’ and enjoy art inspired by the popular TV show ‘The Twilight Zone’. The exhibit curated by artist Susie Cue was great exhibit with a fantastic piece (a door into another dimension) called “Crossed Over” by artist Faust in the center of the gallery. Since I’m a huge Disney fan, maybe you can figure out with was my favorite piece. ????

As expected, Kimberly Cobian pulled off a great set of poets, musicians and artists at the Poet’s Corner on the center of Main St.  I didn’t get to see all of the artists that were part of the Poet’s Corner but I can say that the highlight for me came later in the evening when I saw a band called ‘Lint Vaccine. Check out the video below (Kim’s photo) of their song ‘Reset.

Along 1st St shortly before Old Valley Road, is GQ Cuts. Owner Gabriel Quinones and his team hosted an evening with a cocktail atmosphere with facial shave demos, live music and a photo booth.

A venue we have all been rooting for and waiting to open is Rocket Roasters! Jay and Eduardo were gracious enough to open their doors to the folks of Bridge Town DIY for an evening of music and good times.

Coming north on 1st St from Main St was an exhibit put together by Dino Tadiar called ‘Bridging La Puente’. Council member Charlie Klinakis stopped by to speak with Dino. The exhibit was described as “An exploration and symposium of the architecture and urbanism of Downtown La Puente. Showcasing the past, present and future. It will take you into the culture of the city, interviews of its residences, trends that are taking place, ways for this city to become sustainable economically and physically, feature the historical value from the first residences to hollywood filming.” Check out the photos below of the exhibit.

The far end of the art walk consisted of an event at Twin Palms Recovery Center with music, art and vendors called ‘Summer Soulstice’. There was a bunch of great bands but with all the walking around I’m glad I there just in time to see fellow art walk organizer Omar Alcocer and the band Femille play. Although I didn’t get chance to catch their entire set, I did get a chance to check out their jam session after an “encore” chant broke out after their last song. Check out the video of their jam session below (btw, sorry for the camera adjustment around the 30 second mark).

I spent most of my time eating delicious Kona Ice while in that area so I didn’t get too many photos, but here’s a few. ????
