I should have purchased the ice first.

That’s the one thing that kept running through my mind. Confused? Let me explain. Last night’s Citrus Art Walk in Covina was scheduled to be a semi-Halloween themed evening. Adults were encouraged to bring their children in costumes and vendors were asked to bring candy to pass out to the early trick-or-treaters. Friday afternoon, as I was getting everything together for Saturday, I decided that it would be nice to have some Halloween candy for sale/giving away.  I spoke to my mother-in-law (an amazing crafter) and she gave me some suggestions about what, where and how much to purchase. Later that evening, I took the items over to my in-law’s house and my mother-in-law showed me the steps on how to go about creating some Halloween candy pops.

Playing with my food. 🙂 #chocolate

If you follow me on Instagram (@heyzenc) you saw the photo to the right posted on Friday evening. I was pretty excited about having these for the Art Walk so we immediately got to work. Roughly 6 hours later, we had completed over 72 of these candy pops and my mother-in-law even put some of them in decorative Halloween bags. They were finally ready for the Art Walk (regretfully, I didn’t take a photo when they were completed).

Mid-day Saturday I drove to my in-law’s house to drop off my boys and to pick up the candy pops. I went back home, packed up the car and my buddy Javier and I went off to the Art Walk. On our way, we stopped at 7-11 for drinks but since we were in a bit of a hurry not once did the thought of “you should go buy ice” enter my mind. Not more than 10 minutes (maybe 15) had gone by in the time that it took us to leave my house, stop to buy drinks and get to the Art Walk. When I checked the trays after finding a parking spot I saw that all the candy pops were all chocolate soup in tiny plastic baggies.

*Sigh.*

I was so angry at myself for not thinking of the obvious. In the battle of ’96 degree day vs chocolate candy pops’, 96 degree day was victorious. Here’s a photo of what the pumpkins, ghosts, skulls and bats look like now (you can click on the image for a larger view).

I look at the pictures above and all I do is chuckle. Regardless of my carelessness, the Art Walk was still fun. As always, Javier and I met a lot of really great people at the Art Walk last night. My wife even joined us with our boys later in the evening and I think they made some new friends. 🙂 Below are some photos I was able to take in the short time segments that I was able to break away from our booth.
